The Blue Morpho (Morpho menelaus) dazzles in this clean, bold print — its brilliant metallic blue wings bordered in black, perfectly rendered with sharp lines and abundant negative space. This iconic butterfly occupies tropical forests from Mexico to Colombia and throughout the Amazon basin, where it is instantly recognisable gliding through the shadows or flashing above the treetops.

The Blue Morpho’s vivid colour comes not from pigment, but from microscopic, prism-like scales on the upper surface of its wings. These scales scatter and refract light, producing an iridescent blue that can be seen from dozens of metres away in rainforest clearings or along rivers. Adults, among the largest butterflies in the world with a wingspan of up to 18 centimetres, spend most of their time in the lower canopy and forest floor, feeding on rotting fruit, tree sap, and even fermenting juices that may be mildly intoxicating. When threatened, they close their wings to reveal a brown underside covered in eyespots, providing camouflage and startling would-be predators. Life stages are equally interesting: caterpillars are reddish-brown with green patches and are mildly poisonous due to chemicals in their food plants, while adults live just a few weeks — dedicating most of this time to feeding, mating, and dazzling the rainforest with their rapid, fluttering flight.

This updated artwork is reproduced in landscape format using the giclée process on heavyweight 250gsm archival matte paper, ensuring clarity, rich tone and enduring vibrancy — a fitting tribute to one of the world’s great natural wonders.

Bugs Series

Bugs gathers illustrations adapted from and inspired by founder Simon Tyler's book Bugs, published by Pavilion Children’s Books in 2017. The series celebrates the graphic elegance of insect life: armour-like exoskeletons, iridescent wings, compound eyes, and the ingenious mechanics of movement and camouflage. It’s a visual field guide reimagined—clean, bold forms and carefully tuned palettes that bring structure to the surface.

Each piece begins with the research-led drawings from the book and then goes further: refined linework, rebalanced composition, and subtle textural detailing designed for generous print sizes. The aim is clarity and presence — images that feel scientifically grounded yet striking on the wall. Printed with the same archival care as our other series, Bugs turns natural history into crisp, enduring graphic art.

Printing & Materials

Our Bugs series is produced in collaboration with specialist fine-art printing partners using museum-grade 250 gsm archival giclée paper.

Each print is made to order with exceptional precision and colour accuracy, using pigment-based inks for long-term stability and rich tonal depth.

Prints are carefully rolled in acid-free tissue and shipped in rigid cardboard tubes to ensure they arrive in perfect condition, ready for framing.

All materials and processes are chosen for their longevity, texture, and fidelity to the original artwork, reflecting our commitment to quality and craft.
