Our Process
From Idea to Print
Every design begins with curiosity.
We read, research, and experiment until a subject becomes clear enough to visualise — whether it’s a mathematical structure, an astronomical map, or a natural pattern.
The process isn’t about decoration; it’s about understanding.
When we make something complex visible, it has to be accurate, rigorous, and beautiful in equal measure.
Data, Detail, and Design
Many of our prints are built from real scientific or mathematical data.
We use tools such as Python, Matplotlib, and D3.js to process information and explore form — finding the balance between truth and clarity.
Once the data feels resolved, we refine it through design: composition, typography, hierarchy, and rhythm.
Each piece is tested at large scale to ensure every line, point, and letter behaves perfectly in print.
Craft and Production
We work with carefully chosen production partners who share our respect for precision and material quality.
Every print is produced to order using archival papers and pigment-based inks for maximum longevity.
Colours are managed across devices and printing systems to ensure faithful reproduction, and every artwork is checked by eye before approval.
Experimentation
Not every idea becomes a finished print — and that’s intentional.
Some explorations exist purely as visual research: algorithmic drawings, code-based structures, or scientific images that reveal something intriguing but not yet resolved.
These experiments feed our design thinking and often inspire future projects.
We'll be sharing these via our Experiments page soon as part of our ongoing dialogue between science, design, and imagination.
Learning and Documentation
Many of our prints come with deeper stories — the mathematics behind a diagram, the data sources behind a map, or the reasoning behind a visual system.
We’re building a Knowledgebase to collect these insights: part reference library, part journal.
It will include short essays, process notes, and open data resources for anyone who wants to explore further.
Continuous Refinement
Our process is never static.
Every project refines our tools, workflow, and understanding of the subjects we study.
Design, for us, is a method of learning — a way to see more clearly and to share that clarity with others.
