Our Values

Our Design Approach: Timeless Clarity

At Atomic Printworks, our design ethos is grounded in timeless clarity.

We draw from the precision of mid-century modernism, the discipline of Swiss grid systems, and the belief that good design should make ideas easier to see and understand.

Inspired by designers such as Josef Müller-Brockmann, we use structure, alignment, and rhythm to bring order to complexity.

Every composition is built for coherence and legibility — content first, decoration second.

We avoid imitation and trend, focusing instead on proportion, balance, and the quiet confidence of well-made work.

Academic Responsibility

We never publish what we don’t understand.

Each print or diagram begins with genuine curiosity — reading, researching, experimenting — until we know why the subject matters.

That understanding shapes everything from layout to captioning, ensuring that our work has both visual and intellectual integrity.

We see clarity not just as an aesthetic choice, but as an ethical one.

Embracing Neurodiversity

Atomic Printworks was founded by someone with ADHD, and we proudly celebrate neurodiversity.

We know that minds that think differently often see structure, pattern, and connection in unique ways.

Our focus on mathematics, science, and data is partly driven by this perspective — a love of systems, details, and visual logic.

We aim to design learning materials that reward these strengths and show that different ways of thinking are powerful and creative.

Learning and Collaboration

We believe learning is lifelong and inclusive.

Our work is made for anyone with curiosity — from researchers to teachers, students, and children discovering new ideas.

We welcome collaboration and questions, whether it’s a new subject to visualise or a dataset to explore.

Curiosity, not credentials, is what connects us.

Open Knowledge

We build our visualisations using open-source tools and public scientific data — from Python and D3.js to datasets shared by ESA and NASA.

Whenever possible, we document how our images are made, sharing processes and references so others can learn, adapt, or build upon them.

Open knowledge makes better design possible and turns creativity into a collective pursuit.

Creative Integrity

Every piece we make is original, rigorously sourced, and continually refined.

We credit our influences, share our methods, and stay open to collaboration with educators and researchers.

Curiosity drives us to keep learning — to improve our understanding, our tools, and our craft.

Environmental Responsibility

All prints are produced to order, reducing waste and storage.

We use sustainably sourced materials wherever possible and work with production partners who share our respect for quality and the planet.

Our goal is to make objects of lasting value — prints that endure in both substance and meaning.
