Caring for your prints
Overview
Over the years we’ve produced prints using a wide range of printing and finishing techniques — from traditional giclée processes to modern pigment systems — and we’ve had the pleasure of supplying thousands of customers worldwide.
Through that experience we’ve refined our approach and chosen the print processes and materials we believe look and feel the best.
Each Atomic Printworks edition is produced with exceptional care by trusted partners to achieve a high level of precision, colour accuracy, and surface quality.
These prints are made to last, but they are also delicate.
The guidance below will help you keep your print looking beautiful for the long term.
Before Unwrapping
Keep your print sealed in its packaging until you’re ready to frame it.
This protects the surface from dust, moisture, and accidental handling.
When you do open it, choose a clean, dry space and work on a large, flat surface — ideally covered with a soft, lint-free cloth or clean paper.
Unrolling
Don’t rush when unrolling your print.
Remove it carefully from its protective cardboard tube and gently release the tissue paper to let the print begin to unfurl naturally.
Allow it to relax at its own pace — as the paper fibres settle, the curl will ease.
Avoid forcing it flat straight away, which can cause creasing or kinks.
If the print is large, it’s much easier (and safer) to unroll it with the help of another person, each holding one side by the edges.
Handling
Wash your hands thoroughly before touching the print, or better still, wear clean cotton gloves.
Avoid touching the printed surface directly — especially any deep black or saturated areas, which can show fingerprints or pressure marks.
Always lift and move the print by its edges.
Dust and Cleaning
If dust is present, never rub the surface.
Use a compressed-air can to remove loose particles, or gently flick dust away with a clean microfibre cloth used very lightly.
Avoid household cleaning cloths or tissues, which can scratch or shed fibres.
The Black Series
Our Black Series prints use a deep matte giclée surface that produces exceptional depth and richness of tone, but this finish is delicate and easily marked.
For that reason, Black Series prints are only available pre-framed, ensuring the surface remains pristine and protected behind glass or acrylic.
Storage
If you’re not framing your print immediately, keep it rolled in its original tube with the protective paper sleeve.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity.
